Kiwanis de amigos Presents the annual Relays and rattlesnake run

History and Need
The first opportunity most kids have to participate in sporting competition is during middle school (grades 6, 7 & 8). Running and competing can provide the basic foundation for these youngsters to establish discipline in their lives and discover their athletic potential. Kiwanis De Amigos realizing there was little emphasis on track and field within the community, created two yearly events: The Relays in April and the Rattlesnake Run in September.
These events have evolved into the largest middle school track and field events of their kind in Southern Arizona. Children from diverse economic, social, and ethnic backgrounds participate. For the entrants, these events may well be the most significant sporting events of their young careers. Any middle school is eligible to participate for free.
The Relays hosts up to 1000 athletes from 20 schools and is held at the University of Arizona’s Roy P. Drachman Track & Field Stadium, where more than 100 volunteers, including collegiate track officials support the event. 260 medals and 6 team awards are presented. The September Rattlesnake Run, a cross-country race, is held at Christopher Columbus Park and attracts nearly 400 runners to traverse the 1.6 mile path to earn medals and pride for their schools.
The Opportunity
We invite you to participate. All costs are paid for by donations. Your donation provides:
How is your donation spent ?
The event is run entirely by members of Kiwanis De Amigos and other community volunteers who charge nothing for their services. More than 600 person-hours are donated. Event costs include trophies, T-shirts for athletes and U of A officials, equipment and facility rentals, publicity and printing, and officials. The Relay expenses are estimated in excess of $9,000. Rattlesnake Run expenses similarly are $4,000. A more detailed summary is available upon request. Any funds collected over costs are used to support other charitable activities within the community with a focus on helping children.

Interested In Kiwanis De Amigos ?
Kiwanis de Amigos has been serving the needs of kids and the Tucson community since 1980. Although hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised by Kiwanis de Amigos and donated to organizations helping children, the most personally rewarding activities are the “hands-on” service projects. Whether building houses with Habitat for Humanity, feeding the hungry or tutoring kids in their schools, these are the ways we see and feel our impact in the lives of those we serve.
We are simply a group of men and women of all ages and backgrounds that wish to give back to our community through service and donations. Our emphasis is on helping Tucson’s children. Our projects include:
We use a variety of methods to raise funds to assist Tucson’s children including:
